Now profitable, Axel Springer’s Upday plots its next steps

Axel Springer’s line of defense against the duopoly, news aggregator app Upday, is now profitable and gearing up to scale further and drive more revenue. The app, which comes pre-installed on Samsung devices, now has 25 million monthly active users, according to the platform. Germany, France and the U.K. are the top-three locations for traffic. In Germany, Upday’s figures are verified by third-party organizations such as IVW, the German Audit Bureau of Circulation, and online research firm the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Online Forschung. In June, Upday had 8.2 million unique visitors, according to Comscore.
