Shailesh Prakash was not sold on joining a media company. He had been at a number of tech-centric companies from Sun Microsystems to Netscape to Microsoft. Though the company was in a challenging position, he enjoyed his role as Vice President of Engineering at Sears Holdings Corporation. Prakash was recommended for a tech executive role at The Washington Post Company. Despite his misgivings, he elected to interview, and was impressed with the tech-forward thinking of then CEO Donald Graham. He determined that this would be an opportunity worthy of his talents.
